Winter Maintenance Service

Gritter2

We have had reports and seen for ourselves the significant impact the snow and ice is having on the housing estates not just in Harrowgate Hill, but across the town. The freezing conditions have resulted in frozen compacted snow in places, often covering entire estates. We consider this poses a significant risk to both motorists and pedestrians alike and as a result we contacted the Council to request that they consider treating roads on estates still affected by snow and ice.

Below is the response we received.

“Unfortunately we are not in a position to do this as I have to preserve our salt stock so we can maintain the agreed highway network in a safe condition. Whilst we have enough grit for the foreseeable future and more on order we have used approx 40% of our supplies to date. This is also the case for all North East Authorities and highways agency who have used between 40% – 50% so far. The forecast is for this cold weather to stay until the weekend when it looks like it may warm up for a period and although we may get some snow this week it is not going to be as heavy as last week. As resources allow we will plough un treated areas this week as and when we can.”
